The Italian Chianina, Marchigiana, Romagnola, Marammana and Podolica beef-cattle
breeds, which descended from the same original stock, are now widespread
throughout al of Italy and are found predominantly in the central and southern
regions.
The ranches, which follow the cow-calf line, are small- to middle-sized and
most fo thema re locatedi in hilly or montainous areas.
The authocthonous breeds currently number a total of 120.000 head of cattle currently infolved in selection activities. Their outstanding production adn reproductive traits, as well as the excellent quality af their beef, have made them famous all over the world, where both purebreds and crossbreds are raised succesfully.
