Together with the control stations, the Nationa Herd Book is the basic
tool used to improve the cattle.
It is divided into 5 sections, one for each breed. Its computerized archives are used to collect all the individual, genealogical, morphological, production and reproduction data for the registered cattle. This information is used not only for genealogical certification, but it also helps establish the genetic value of bulls and cows in order to set up the proper mating programs and supply the breeders with all the information they need to improve their livestock.
The Central Herd Book Office is located at the Association's headquarters. Its role is to coordinate and oversee the work being carried out by the provincial offices at the various APAs and throughout Italy.
