Genetic Evaluation

Genetic evaluation makes use of all information collected during the various selection activities (Genetic Center, Herd Book, on-field productive data, linear scores) in order to estimate the genetic value of bulls and cows, identifying the best ones according to established selection objectives. for this purpose, using appropriate analysis models, the production, reproduction and morphological date are thus purified of environmental effects. The ensuing values, which are combined to obtain indexes, determine the genetic value of each subject. This sector is involved in studying and setting up the analysis models used to index the breeding animals. In particular, this sector handles the calculation of the Bull Selection Index for subjects involved in performance testing. This is done by a BLUP/animal-model system based on growth and muscle development traits. In addition, weight measurements done on field and information on morphology and reproductive efficiency are also used to process additional genetic indexes for the selected cattle. Lastly, this sector participates in research projects that focus on improving the breed, working in collaboration with university bodies and research agencies, the Italian Breeder's Association and other specific institutions.
