Selection Results
In recent years, the selection program illustrated above has allowed the objectives
tied to livestock improvement to be pursued effectively. Through the fitting
use of all available tools and of the genetics centers in particular, the factors
that represent the basis of productivity have been augmented significantly.
Daily weight gain, muscle development, slaughter yield and early maturation
have been improved substantially,
achieving
highly significant results among the most valuable sires that are destined for
the artificial insemination centers and the used wisely within the population.
In the last ten years the first calving age ha been lowered by 60 days in Chianina,
Marchigiana and Romagnola, and by 120 days in Maremmana and Podolica. This is
due to the earlier maturing of selected cows. Moreover, the calving interval
has been shortened: 30 days less in Chianina, Marchigiana and Romagnola, 60
days less in Maremmana and Podolica.
