ANGELO GIUSEPPE CIARDIELLO
Minister of Agricultural and Forestry Policies - General Director for Agro-Food Products and Consumer Protection

Born in Pietrastornina (Avellino) on 3 August 1959;

Receives his Degree in Agricultural Science on 19 December 1987 with a final grade of 104/110 from the Faculty of Agricultural Science of the University of Naples, Portici campus, with a thesis done at the Department of Animal Production Science (chair of Animal Husbandry and Genetic Improvement: Prof. Donato Matassino) entitled: “Study of the aptitude for goat milk coagulation on a breeding farm in the province of Isernia in relation to certain factors inherent in the animal”;

Receives certification to practise the profession of AGRONOMIST during the second session of the year 1988, at the University of Naples;

Works for three years at the laboratories of the Department of Animal Production Science, on the influence of certain factors (pH, fat %, protein %, lactose %, etc.) on the variation of the properties of buffalo and goat milk for dairy product purposes;

Collaborates on a study at the Botanical Gardens of Naples (Coordinator: Prof. Paolo De Luca), financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, on useful natural plants and weeds in Campania, Basilicata and Molise, in 1988-89;

Contributes to the publication “Studio sui caprini autoctoni del Molise. III. Stima dell’attitudine del latte alla caseificazione mediante la lattodinamografia”; D. Matassino, N. Montemurro, F. Grasso e A.G. Ciardiello, Prod. Anim. 1988, 1 III serie, 21;

Since 8 July 1991, employee of the Minister of Agricultural and Forestry Policies with the qualification of Technical Coordinator (C³) and in service at the General Director for Agro-Food Products and Consumer Protection – Office QTC IX – Animal Productions.

His main duties are the following:

  • examination of the problems concerning the labelling of beef under EC Regulation no. 1760/2000;
  • examination of the problems concerning the labelling of poultry meats under the Ministerial Decree of 29 July 2004;
  • examination of the grant applications for breeder associations from the standpoint both of advisability and merit and of the administrative aspects;
  • examination of applications for payments for projects financed under Law no. 252/91, “Urgent actions in animal husbandry”.
  • compilation and drafting of the regulations concerning animal productions;
  • relations with other Administrations and, in particular, with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Production Activities, on problems connected with animal productions and consumer protection;
  • revision of the specifications of herdbooks.

Also collaborated in the revision and definition of the computer procedure, from the technical-organizational standpoint, for the registration of English purebred and Italian trotter horses in the Studbook, instituted by Ministerial Decree on 26 July1994;

Within the framework of the activities assigned to the QTC IX Office – Animal Production, holds the following offices:

ADALBERTO FALASCHINI
University of Bologna, D.I.M.O.R.F.I.P.A.

Adalberto Falaschini in 1968 has taken an agronomy degree in Bologna University. From 1972 to 1983 he was Assistant professor of Animal Genetic and Zootechny Course in Animal Production faculty in Bologna University. From 1983 to 1986 he was Assistant Professor of Zootechny in Agronomy Faculty in Bologna. He won a competitive examination as Full Professor and from 1986 to 1990 he taught Zoothecny in Udine University. From 1990 to 1999 he thought General Zootechny in Agronomy Faculty in Ancona University. Moreover he thought Zootechnical Ethnology and Ethnography, Feedstuff technique and Food provisioning, markets and industries as supply professor. Now he is full professor of General Zootechny in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bologna University. He published over 150 scientific papers and three books on the different topics of Animal Husbandry for the Agricultural High school . He was co-ordinator of an ASPA Commission study and of research group of Italian CNR on breeding horses. He is member of several scientific associations (ASPA, Buiatria, SIDI, SISVet). From 2001 to 2004 he is membr of the Executive Commitee of ASPA.
Among the main interesting topics of his researches there are several aspects concerning Italian beef cattle breeds such as morphological evaluation of Italian beef cattle breeds, effects of 1/29 Robertson translocation in Romagnola beef cattle and effects of inbreeding in Marchigiana and Romagnola breeds.

 

SERGIO GIGLI

I have been a researcher of the "Istituto Sperimentale per la Zootecnia" (Animal Production Research Institute, via Salaria., 31, 00016 Monterotondo (RM), Italy) since 1974 and I have worked first on Animal Feeding and Nutrition Department from 1976 . I have worked on Meat Production Department with dr. A. Romita as director.
In 1989, I have been charged of the direction of Meat Production Department and in 1992 I passed the examinations to become the director of the section.
I followed all the management of programmes and the statistical analysis of experimental data relative to the Meat Production Section as I have acquired a good knowledge of computer software's (BASIC and FORTRAN) and of statistical systems (SAS, Statistical Analysis System); moreover I studied all the different aspects of meat production as genetic improvement and evaluation of the crossbreeds, breeding techniques, quantitative and qualitative carcass and meat characteristics.
I collaborate and/or co-ordinate at numerous national and international research projects (CNR; MiPA, UE), which results hare published on the specialised journals and on the proceedings of Italian or international congress.
I carried on also a didactic activity with numerous courses and seminaries about animal and meat production and statistical analysis.
I am a member of the Scientific Association on Animal Production (ASPA) and in particular I collaborate with the following commissions:
a) "Evaluation of quantitative and qualitative production of meat"
b) "Experimental planning and mathematical-statistical discussion of the results".
c) "Animal product quality".
d) "Genetic improvement of domestic animals".
I am a member of the following International Commissions:

He also worked on productive recovery and valorization of Tuscany native bovine breeds, also through the proposition of a production disciplinary.
